Proposed Housing Development

Earlier this year, Metacre Ltd submitted a major outline planning application seeking approval for the erection of up to 40 houses on farmland south of the B5269 Preston Road opposite the junction with Manor Road. In response to this planning application and before responding formerly, the Parish Council carried out a survey of the majority of the residents in April seeking their views on this planning application and future housing development around the village.

The results of the survey showed that of the 24% of the residents that responded 84.7% were not in favour of the proposed development, 13.6% were in favour of the proposed development and 1.7% did not express a preference. In response to the to the whether or not residents were in favour of housing development in the future 69.5% were against future development, 27.1% were in favour and 3.4% did not state a preference. The type and quantity of dwellings favoured by those residents who were in favour of some future housing development are given in the table below.

Subsidised Bus Services Survey

The vast majority of residents will be aware that the 80/82 subsidised service, which linked this and other parishes with Blackpool, Poulton Le Fylde, Fleetwood and Preston, was dramatically withdrawn shortly before Christmas without any prior warning as a result of the failure of Classic Bus Northwest Ltd.

Over the Christmas/New Year period a number of Parish Councilors from our parish, Together with councilors from Elswick and Great Eccelston worked together to put in place a temporary service so that the residents of the parishes would not be totally stranded.

The Councilors from these parishes and a large number of residents from Inskip with Sowerby made representations to Lancashire County Council requesting the reinstatement of the subsidised bus service. It was largely as a result of the number of representations that LCC received from the residents of this parish that LCC felt obliged to put in place the current subsidised bus service.

Due to cuts in funding from central government, LCC has to make cuts in services and the subsidised bus services across the county will be reviewed in the near future. There is a very real possibility that as a result of that review that the parish could be left with a significantly reduced bus service or no service at all. LCC are currently consulting about the proposed criteria that they intend to use in the future for assessing the viability of subsidised services across the county. The Parish Councilors would urge all residents to complete the questionnaire on-line at:
