About The Parish Council

Since the inaugural meeting of Inskip-With-Sowerby Parish Council on the 4th December 1894 much has changed but the ethos of the Council remains the same, to work for the good of the village. The Parish Council meet on the third Thursday of the month (except August* & December) and on a number of other occasions when it is deemed necessary to deal with a particular issue. *Meetings in August are held on Carrs Green Common.

Lancashire County Council’s responsibilities include:

  • Highways, including roads, footpaths, pavements, street lighting, some cutting of grass verges, etc
  • Education – schools, adult education, etc.
  • Social services, including the provision of care homes, etc
  • Waste sites

Wyre Council’s responsibilities include:

  • Housing
  • Planning application decisions
  • Rubbish collection from premises in the Parish; provision of recycling facilities
  • Street cleansing
  • Environmental health
  • Provision of leisure and sports facilities and recreation grounds
  • Collection of Council Tax on behalf of all three tiers of local government
  • Licensing of taxis
